The Original Inside Mall in Minnesota Just Added 50 New Stores
I've been hearing people say this for years, ever since the pandemic in 2020, that malls are dead. No one shops there anymore and everyone buys everything online.
IT'S A MYTH THAT "ALL MALLS ARE DEAD"
That is not the case everywhere. I have heard for other people who live in some other states that compared to their malls, ours here in Minnesota are booming! That is good news. Because personally, I don't want to shop for everything online. I like to feel the material, or whatever. I also sometimes need/want the item right now - no time for shipping. Plus, I like to know quality without others opinions. Reviews are a great tool, but I also want to see for myself sometimes before purchasing.
EXPANSION FOR THE FIRST INDOOR MALL IN THE COUNTRY
Southdale Mall in Edina was the first indoor mall - anywhere. And it makes sense here in Minnesota that we would have an indoor mall. Now, they are extending a high end of the mall with 50 new stores. The luxury wing is in addition to the 50 new stores. That's huge!!
From Bring Me the News:
“The opening of Tiffany & Co. and the completion of the luxury wing represent a defining moment for Southdale Center,” says Jonathan Murphy, Co-President, North American Real Estate at Simon Properties, which owns Southdale Center.
Besides Tiffany & Co., there is also Gucci, David Yurman, Montcler, Louis Vuttion, Burberry, Max Mara and Watches of Switzerland.
HIGH END, BUT NOT THE GALLERIA
This is different than the Galleria which is also located in Edina. A couple of these high end stores relocated from the Galleria to Southdale's new wing which officially opened last Summer.
I'm not sure we have all of the high end customers to shop at these stores, I actually hope we do. But it might be a tough go. We will see as time will tell. Hopefully it's a positive result.
