WATCH: MN High School Hockey Fans Get Tossed From Section
The boys state hockey tournament just wrapped up this weekend in St. Paul. In a tradition that seems to have spanned generations, large groups of students got together to harass Edina players as they played in the Class AA championship game against Grand Rapids Saturday night. It got to the point where a whole section of fans was escorted out.
The video from the Facebook page Best of Minnesota shows what appears to be high school students chanting in the upper levels of the Xcel Energy Center. The students were chanting anti-Edina messages and then all got up and walked out.
Later in the video, you can see another large group of students, maybe the same group of students from before, also chant anti-Edina messages and then get up and go.
Comments from the video post indicate that the chants against Edina started out with some adult language being inserted, but was later changed to something more PG-13.
This isn't anything new, students getting rowdy at the Minnesota State Hockey tournament seems to happen each year, and each year it seems large groups of students get escorted out after starting an inappropriate chant.
Despite the student's best efforts to distract Edina's players through the chanting, Edina went on to win the Class AA Championship game against Grand Rapids 5-2.
Closer to home, St. Cloud Cathedral got their second state championship Saturday afternoon after beating Hermantown 3-1.
