If you are a fan of area amateur hockey, you are in luck as the Granite City Lumberjacks are at home this weekend, taking on an I-94 rival as well as welcoming the Warhawks of Willmar. The Norsemen, however, are back on the road after going 1-2 at the NAHL fall showcase in Blaine. Here's what you need to know about the games this weekend.

NA3HL Champs Look To Keep Winning At Home

The Granite City Lumberjacks, your 2025 Fraser Cup Champions, opened the season last weekend with a big win in front of the home crowd at Miller Buick GMC Arena, beating the Minnesota Vulcans, formerly the Moose, 5-2.

The Lumberjacks look to keep winning at home as they welcome in I-94 rival, the Alexandria Blizzard, Friday night, at 7:30pm, and then Saturday they welcome in the Willmar Warhawks, for another 7:30pm start.

You can get tickets to the game through the Value Connection or head to the Granite City Lumberjacks website here.

My prediction: the Lumberjacks skate to a 2-0 weekend and stay undefeated on the year.

Why Not Get Two W's In Minot? Norsemen On The Road

Why not us? That's what Coach Joe Exter should be telling the Norsemen this weekend as they take the bus ride to Minot to take on the Minotauros in a Central Division collision. Minot comes into the contest 4- 1 on the season and is sitting in second place.

The Norsemen are looking for some positive momentum after getting a win in their 3rd game at the showcase last week in Blaine; a weekend sweep would be huge for the young team.

I predict a split series with the Norsemen coming home with some points, ahead of their Hockey Fights Cancer night Friday, October 9th against Aberdeen.

Good luck to our area teams heading into a busy hockey weekend.
