A Central Minnesota towing company is once again sharing an important reminder for those driving during snowstorms and inclement weather. When you see emergency lights flashing on the shoulder of the road, slow down and move over. The reminder also came with a photo of the damage that one of the business's trucks sustained when another driver failed to slow down and move over this weekend.

Slow Down & Move Over...It's The Law

The reminder from Collins Brothers Towing was powerful, showing the damage one of their trucks sustained when another motorist failed to move over and slow down.

"Please! SLOW DOWN! And MOVE OVER!

Everyone is ok, but it could easily be a different outcome.

Our guys are out there to help you! Please respect them.

One of our trucks working on recovering a pickup and Jacknifed Fishouse from a ditch this morning was hit.

Our trucks working was within the white lines, emergency lights were on, everything proper and legal.

The roads are in tough shape, they are slippery, don’t think you are invincible.

You might be able to be the “tough guy” or the “I got 4x4” this time, but the next time it will bite you. We see it MANY times!

Just please, slow down, take your time and MOVE OVER for emergency vehicles. THIS INCLUDES TOW TRUCKS."

Luckily, everyone involved was OK, but the accident could have been prevented.

Minnesota Law States You've Got To Move Over & Slow Down

The Ted Foss Move Over law has been on the books for years, since 2001, and it seems like every season, Minnesota drivers need a reminder of that law. According to Minnesota Statute 169.18

"When approaching and before passing an authorized vehicle with its emergency, flashing, or warning lights activated that is parked or otherwise stopped on or next to a street or highway having two lanes in the same direction, the driver of a vehicle must safely move the vehicle to the lane farthest away from the authorized vehicle, if it is possible to do so."

Failure to move over could result in a citation and monetary fine.

Alex Wayne recently bought a mash-up of a Minnesota vehicle. It's a Mini Cooper frame with a Chevy Express van skeleton on top. This vehicle definitely turns some heads as it goes by, but it was supposed to do that.
