Continuing with their long tradition, Wild Mountain Ski Area in Taylors Falls is the first ski area to open in Minnesota.

Wild Mountian has always been early to the part so to speak when it comes to being open for skiing and snowboarding. For the past 40 years, they have always been the first to open in the state, and the new owners this year wanted to keep that tradition alive. Staff at Wild Mountain told Fox 9 that they started making snow for their hills on Sunday night.

Last year the ski area opened on October 29th, and the year before they opened on October 21st, putting the 2020 opening right on track with 2018.

Not everything is open of course as it is so early in the season and snow just started being made a couple of days ago. Wild Mountain shared that there will be no food and beverage services, lessons, or equipment rentals during these early days. If you are anxious to get the skis out, operations will be day-to-day based as the team works to cover more and more runs with snow. Be sure to check their snow report to start planning your trip.

Luckily we have the first measurable snow for the season in the forecast today, which will make it easier for staff not only at Wild Mountian but for all the ski areas in the state. For weather updates, be sure to download our mobile app and opt-in for "weather" alerts.
