‘Plants Are Having A Moment’ St. Cloud Restaurant Week – Vegetarian/Vegan

Today is the second day of St. Cloud's Restaurant Week. I resolved this year that I would get out and try something new and different on at least one of the days. Today, I was able to get away from the office for lunch and enjoyed a vegetarian take on an already vegetarian meal. The grilled cheese sandwich.

Does St. Cloud have a restaurant week?

Yes, it does, and this isn't the first year it has been held; in fact, this is year number 4. 

Restaurant Week works like this: each day, there is a different theme, and the restaurants participating then make a one-day menu item that follows that theme.

Sunday: Mom's Favorites (it was Mother's Day after all)

Monday: Vegan/Vegetarian

Tuesday: Kid Friendly

Wednesday: Tastes Like Minnesota (gonna be a lot of tater tot hotdishes out there)

Thursday: Meat Lover's Paradise

Friday: Fully Loaded (Think about a lot of food)

Saturday: Owner's Recommendations

How does the grilled cheese sandwich get better?

The White Horse in downtown St. Cloud is taking part in St. Cloud's restaurant week, and today they gave their take on a classic grilled cheese sandwich as a nod to the 'vegan/vegetarian' day today.

The White Horse served up a Garlic Cheese Bread Grilled Cheese Sandwich, with homemade marinara to dip it in. Your choice of side is either fries or tots.

How was it?

Very good, and pretty filling, so I ended up taking half of it home to enjoy later. When you mess around with a classic like grilled cheese, things can go off track, but this was seasoned wonderfully, and the homemade garlic bread was spot on, as it wasn't too garlicky for my taste.

The special should run throughout the rest of the day today, and if you don't mind the wind, the patio looks like a great spot to sit and enjoy the rest of your day.

Get out and support area restaurants!

Get out and support all of our area restaurants at least once this week, since the pandemic has made finding waitstaff and back-of-house staff hard, and now with the cost of items going up, there is even more pressure on local owners to provide great food at a reasonable price.
