This might be one of the biggest series of the season for the Granite City Lumberjacks. They will be playing a home-and-home series with their I-94 rivals from Alexandria and your help is needed. Let's turn the Miller Buick GMC arena into a tough environment to play Saturday night.

The team starts the series off in Alexandria on Friday night, puck drop is scheduled for 7:10 at the Runestone Community Center. Then on Saturday night, the Lumberjack's attention will turn to protecting their home ice as the Alexandria Blizzard will drive down I-94 for a 7:30pm puck drop at the Miller Buick GMC Arena on the Benton County Fairgrounds.

To say this is a big series would be somewhat of an understatement as the Lumberjacks started the season red-hot, but the Blizzard have kept pace. Currently in the standings the Blizzard are just 7 points back from Granite City, making these points this weekend all that more important for both teams.

Win the division, get to the playoffs

Why is it important for the Granite City Lumberjacks to win the division? Well to compete for the Fraser Cup, you need to either win your division or be the lone wild card team, so by winning your division you are guaranteeing yourself a spot.

This year's Fraser Cup Finals will be the usual "two-game round-robin format followed by a semi-final and a championship game at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, MO from March 26-30.

A round-robin format with two pools will be implemented, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the Semi-Finals, where they will then cross over to play the other top two teams from the other pool. The winners of the Semi-Finals will advance to the Fraser Cup Championship Game."
