I think we all know that there are people who have some severe allergies.  Some allergies that are so severe that they could be life threatening.  And that is no joke.  But at what point do we need to take responsibility for our own actions?

I understand that allergy information needs to be on a label so that people who have allergies will know if something they are allergic to is included in the ingredients of a particular food.  And also, I understand that there is Vegan butter.  But that one would definitely be titled as Vegan Butter, not just a note on it that it's vegan. And it would be a lot more expensive.

Here's my thing - Costco recently had to remove over 80,000 pounds of their own Kirkland brand of Sweet Cream Butter because the labels did not include the allergy information stating that the butter was made from milk.  Ummm.... it's butter. Are there actually people out there who don't know that butter is a milk product? I think that if you are allergic to milk products, you definitely know that milk is included in the making of butter.  Besides the label of the product says "Sweet Cream Butter" what do you think cream is??

The company in October recalled 1,300 cases (46,800 lbs) of its Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter, and 900 cases (32,400 lbs) of its Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter, because both products’ labels were missing a “Contains Milk” statement, according to an announcement from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Now, what I'm hoping is that they recalled the product because it's a law that the allergy information needs to be included in the label, not because we, as a society, didn't know that already.  But 80,000 pounds of perfectly good butter recalled because of a label error?  That seems excessive.  Maybe put up a sign on the case at Costco that states that fact.  It seems like such a waste.

Well, at least now people who are allergic to milk won't be confused by the fact that BUTTER didn't have a label that states that there is MILK IN THE BUTTER!  Thank goodness!!!
