Compassion On Display As MN Sheriff Opens Up Lobby For Homeless

Yesterday was certainly not a day to be stuck outdoors. Between the plunging temps, the wind, and snow (for portions of the state) it wasn't very fun to be outside, even for a little bit. One Minnesota Sheriff decided that due to the wind and cold that was expected, he would be opening up their law enforcement center's lobby. The was in addition to showing how dire the situation is for those living homeless in Minnesota.

Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher often goes live on the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page, he calls these events 'Live on Patrol'. In a recent 'Live on Patrol' Sheriff Fletcher approaches a homeless encampment in his squad not far from downtown St. Paul, and starts to speak with some of the 'residents'.

Fletcher offers up some gloves and socks, as well as some McDonald's gift cards. On top of those gifts, he left those that he spoke to an invitation to spend the night in the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center's lobby.

Fletcher is also collecting items socks and mittens for those who are homeless according to the post about opening up the lobby.

To me, it was a moment of compassion for those who don't have much of anything for one reason or another.

If you go back and watch a portion of his 'Live on Patrol' it's stark to see just how these people are living/surviving out in the elements night in and out.

It's unclear at least this morning, how many people took Sheriff Fletcher up on his offer of sleeping in the lobby.
