A popular Minnesota brewery is going to limit its participation in a social district due to new policies enacted. The brewery posted its thoughts about the new policies with the social district online, as well as a letter it received from the City of Anoka.

Changes To Anoka's Social District Causing A Ripple

According to 10k Brewing in Anoka, they are going to limit participation in the social district this summer. According to an online post last week:

The patio is out, and the 2026 Social District has started. Unfortunately, this year is a bittersweet announcement. 10K Brewing will be limiting participation in the Anoka Social District. In response to unrelated incidents Downtown, Anoka Police Department will be using plainclothed officers to police proper social district cup usage at the direction of City Manager Greg Lee, the Mayor, and the Anoka City Council. While we support enforcing the rules of the social district, this form of enforcement exposes our business and our customers to fines, potential jail time, and a criminal record.
In my experience, I have found individuals with improper cups, even glasses, from my restaurant and other restaurants Downtown. In every case, it has been a misunderstanding about how the social district operates. It is a positive, educational conversation, and they return to the restaurant and obtain the proper cup.
The social district is meant to be fun, promote Anoka, and build a sense of place and community.
City of Anoka, Minnesota lets revisit this in a way that promotes businesses, tourism, and community.

Social District Issues?

The City of Anoka enacted the social district in a portion of the downtown in September of 2023, and it was the first of its kind in Minnesota. The social district became a year-round opportunity in October of 2025. The district allows people to consume alcohol purchased from licensed businesses on public sidewalks. The district operates from 10am to 10pm daily.

The issue that seemed to come up from the 10k Brewing post dealt with improper glasses being used by patrons, whether that is on purpose or accidentally.

You can read more about the social district on the City of Anoka's website, here.
