The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from Midnight tonight through 6 PM Tuesday evening for portions of central Minnesota, including Sherburne and Wright counties.

The advisory also includes the entire Twin Cities metro area. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for southwestern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

3 to 5 inches of new snow is expected in St. Cloud, with more in the advisory area to the south and east. Plan on slippery road conditions impacting both the morning or evening commutes on Tuesday.

From the National Weather Service this afternoon: The heaviest snow will be Tuesday morning, and we expect significant impacts to the morning commute. Snow totals in excess of 6 inches will fall across southeastern MN, while 2 to 5 inches are expected across much of the rest of Minnesota. A few locations in west central Wisconsin could see over a foot by the time the snow ends Tuesday night.
