Hey kids, listen up. You don't need a license to fish in Minnesota -- and this weekend, adults don't either as long as they take you along. It's 'Take A Kid Fishing' weekend in Minnesota this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 11th, 12th, and 13th -- and adults 16 & older that take a child 15 & younger fishing don't need a license.

It's a great opportunity to teach a child the finer points on landing a keeper, and they just might take to the sport for a lifetime -- hook, line, and sinker. So plan a special fishing day or weekend and catch some quality time with friends and family.

If you do want to grab a Minnesota fishing license for use beyond this weekend, you can grab one at most area sporting goods stores, or online right here on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website. A basic adult individual Minnesota fishing license will cost you $25.

NOTE: Get your first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before June 30th, 2021 and you can choose a free Minnesota fishing license through the state's 'Your Shot at Summer' vaccination incentive program.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conducts the 'I Can Fish' series all summer long, giving kids the chance to give fishing a try -- with hands-on instruction from experienced anglers. There are several going on this weekend. You can get that schedule HERE.

You van list the Minnesota DNR's 'Kids Fishing Fun' page HERE, with coloring books, puzzles, games, fish finder brochures, activity book, fish ID chart, fishing diary, and more.
