We are fully into open water fishing season in Minnesota, and we've already seen some records pulled from the depths of Minnesota lakes. If you are looking for a record-setting catch, you might be interested to know that a Lake Superior guide seems to put clients on record-breaking fish.

Lake Superior Guide On Run of Good Luck

I've been following Lake Superior Jigging on social media for the last few months, and I've always been impressed with the photos of fish caught. I must not have been the only one to notice the size of the catches, as Outdoor Life just spotlighted Ethan Waytashek on his ability to put clients on some record-setting fish.

Just a few weeks ago, Ethan put a client on another record-setting Lake Trout, the fourth record Waytashek has helped find over the last three years.

The new record, which broke one held by another one of Ethan's clients, is 45.5" long, and as you can see by the photo, it was a HUGE trout.

For the record, it was Joe Bouta from Benson who was the lucky guy who caught the record on May 9th.

The record fish was released back into Lake Superior for someone else to catch.

4th Record Breaking Fish Caught On Waytashek's Boat

It's hard to believe that one guide is putting so many state record fish in his boat but that's been the case for Lake Trout since 2024 for Waytashek. Here are the three previous records:

  • Kelsey Vanderyheyden – 42.5 inches April 2024
  • Isaiah Bartlett – 43.25 inches March 2025
  • Matthew Hammer – 44 inches April 2026

You've got to like your odds if you are stepping onto a boat guided by Waytashek at this point.

Happy fishing!
