With all this chatter about SpaceX and the first civilian travel to outer space, it's safe to say that space exploration is popular again.

But, there's actually a Minnesota town that's been obsessed with space since before it was cool again.

Meet Cosmos, Minnesota! It's a town in Meeker County near the South Fork of the Crow River.

According to Wikipedia, Cosmos finally became a city in 1969, the year Apollo 11 landed on the moon. Thus, their name makes so much sense! The world was hyper focused on space travel in the 60s.

Cosmos isn't only known for having a fun space name. They actually take things a few steps further. Here's where the town gets super cool...

According to Google Maps, every street in the town is named after planet and all avenues are named after space constellations. Check out some of these stellar names:

  • Mars Street North
  • Venus Street East
  • Comet Avenue
  • Jupiter Street
  • Hercules
  • Neptune Street
  • Libra Avenue
  • Mercury Street
  • Draco Avenue
  • Milkyway Street North
  • West Astro Boulevard

And, the space fun doesn't end there...oh, no friends. Cosmos also holds an annual Space Festival in July. Last year the festival was canceled due to COVID-19. So, we're expecting things to be bigger and better this year, considering talk of people going to space this fall.

The festival usually includes a bean bag, volleyball and softball tournament. They also feature a parade, food vendors, beer garden, lazer tag, firemen's pancake breakfast, dunk tank, disc golf, city-wide garage sales,  tractor pull,  kiddie parade, medallion hunt and so much more.

What a fun little gem in our own Minnesota backyard. We love that they've got their eyes toward the skies. Keep being stellar, Cosmos.
