I love carving pumpkins! It's one of my favorite things to do in the fall and is a family tradition that we do together.

It's important to keep in mind some safety tips when carving pumpkins especially if you've got some little monsters decorating pumpkins with you.

1. Consider buying a pumpkin carving kit at the store. They typically come with a little pumpkin saw that is pretty child proof. Do not let your children use a sharp kitchen knife. If a kitchen knife is your instrument of choice make sure an adult is the one doing the carving.

2. Designate a carving station that includes newspapers and hand towels. Place newspapers around the table or ground to keep the pumpkin from slipping around while you're carving it. Make sure to have a towel or cloth at your station to wipe the pumpkin guts and juice off of your hands.

3. Make small little away from your body to avoid slipping with your knife. You're not supposed to hold the pumpkin from the inside. Put the stem back on the top and use that as a way to hold the pumpkin sturdy.

4. Don't rush through pumpkin carving. Designate enough time to get the pumpkins carved the way you want them to be. When you feel rushed accidents could happen.
