The games tomorrow afternoon and evening will decide which NFL teams will play in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 9th. While the Vikings have already been eliminated from the hunt for the Lombardi, there is one team that Minnesotans could latch on to in the early game. That team would be the Washington Commanders, the team has some shared history with the #BoldNorth so it wouldn't be right to cheer for anyone else.

The last time Washington won the Super Bowl, was also the last time the team played in the big game, in 1992, in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, in a game featuring the first televised Super Bowl halftime show. (Honestly when you watch it back now it was pretty lame but at the time, what a show!) CBS which was airing the game that year faced competition from FOX's In Livin' Color, as they aired a 'special' episode to compete with halftime from Minneapolis.

The game was known as Super Bowl 26, and it was played on January 26th, 1992, in front of more than 63,000 fans.

Quarterbacking the then Redskins was Mark Rypien, who led the team to a 37-34 win over the Jim Kelly-led Buffalo Bills. Coaching the team was Joe Gibbs, who would go on to win his 3rd championship with the team over the last 10 years.

There are some other similarities or reasons to cheer on Washington this weekend other than the whole Eagles fans thing, is that former Washington QB Mark Rypien's nephew Brett, was a QB on the Vikings this past season, and former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Chad Beebe son of Buffalo great Don Beebe.

How about some former players with the DC Minnesota connection? Former QB, and fan favorite until he left Kirk Cousins was with Washington, NFL Hall of Famer Paul Krause went to play for the Redskins when his time was up in Minnesota.

I'd love to see a Super Bowl 26 rematch between Buffalo and Washington, but something tells me we are going to get a Kansas City vs Philadelphia Super Bowl.
