Ever since I came across an article on the small town of Hasty last week, I've been reading all kinds of things about Minnesota history.  There are some things that just totally blow my mind including this story about Maine Prairie Corners.

If you are interested in our great state's history you can find a lot of cool things from Forgotten Minnesota, which is where I discovered the story of a little ghost town called Maine Prairie Corners.

According to the article this town, which would be near Kimball today, was established in the mid-1800's by settlers from Maine.  They came here and really built the little town up. The town housed a major fort during the Dakota Conflict of 1862 and was quite the booming town around 1865.

The town had several businesses including a cheese factory and a post office.  There were three churches practically on top of each other but things changed drastically in the late 1880's and everything moved to the town now known is Kimball.

The town no longer exists except for a few farms and an interesting controversy.  Check out the details and more history here.  I'm pretty sure you'll be as surprised as I was to learn some things about towns that were here and the things that went down in them.

On a totally random side note, I assume now I know the story of a road I used to live on here in St. Cloud.  I called an apartment complex on Maine Prairie Road home for a while and I'm guessing it's all tied together. Pretty cool!
