St. Cloud Target Stores Reopen, CEO Addresses Last Weekend’s Events

Target closed both of their St. Cloud locations over the weekend as a precaution following the looting of one of their Minneapolis locations. Several videos have gone viral  over the weekend of the Lake Street store being overtaken by looters. Protesters have gathered in Minneapolis following the police killing of George Floyd early last week.

The Minnesota based retailer is reopen for regular hours at both St. Cloud locations today. Target's Chairman and CEO, Brian Cornell addressed the recent events in a letter published to their corporate website.

"We are a community in pain. That pain is not unique to the Twin Citties--it extends across America. The Murder of Geroge Floyd has unleashed the pent-up pain of years, as have the killings of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor."

Cornell says the company has vowed to 'face pain with purpose.' They're donating first aid equipment, bottle water, formula, diapers, medicine and other essentials to areas like Minneapolis that have seen the most destruction.

As for the 200 employees who are without jobs facing the aftermath of the looting of Target's Lake Street store, they company will be paying those people their full pay and benefits over the next several weeks.

Cornell wrote, "It’s hard to see now, but the day will come for healing—and our team will join our hearts, hands and resources in that journey. Even now, Target leaders are assembling community members, partners and local officials to help identify what more we can do together and what resources are required to help families, starting right here in Minnesota."
