Weekends are special for a lot of people. Maybe it’s the opportunity to sleep later, or to be able to have more time with your family or friends for things that you don’t normally have time to do during the week.

A lot of people get to enjoy the two days a week that you're (hopefully) off from work at a different pace than the Monday through Friday grind.

Maybe it’s the opportunity to go have breakfast with the family and friends I mentioned earlier. If that’s one of your goals on the weekends, here’s a story I wrote recently about weekend breakfast spots.

Now, let’s get back to the topic of special things the weekends bring us. I recently learned of a local business in Saint Cloud that has what I thought was a pretty cool Saturday morning ritual.

The Used Furniture Store puts on a certain comedy golf movie every Saturday morning in their employee office area of the store where they spend a good bit of their time, and they have for years. The movie is about a bad hockey player who tried his hand at golf to try and save his grandmother's house.

My wife and I met the owner Mike, and his associate Matt this past Saturday when we purchased a couch from them. They offer a wide variety of previously owned furniture and home decor items.

We prefer to buy pre-owned items as opposed to new ones for many reasons. We’ve been shopping at this store looking for a couch since last fall, but until this past weekend the couches we really liked were always sold. Friday night my wife noticed a couple of new additions to their inventory on their Facebook page that we checked out Saturday Morning.  And we finally found the one we both liked.

In talking with Mike about the couch, I noticed this certain movie on the office TV, and I said, “solid movie choice”. Mike said “Thanks, we show this morning every Saturday morning, and we have for at least the last 15 years”. The business has been open for about 34 years, and almost half of that time this movie has been there too.

As Mike got our information to have our couch delivered this week, we bantered a bit about the movie, and how badly I play golf.

Each time we’ve gone into the store to look, Mike, Matt and the other folks who work there have always been very nice and helpful. I’m glad we finally found the couch we’ve been looking for and that we have a common bond in a favorite movie.
