I love polar bears.  That is, I like watching them play in the water and roll around in the snow.  In other words, I have seen them on TV or in movies only.  Or, in a zoo setting.  They always look like they are living their best life.  Much like a penguin.  Just fun.

But - do not make any mistake.  Polar bears are considered as the most dangerous of all of the bears.  They are the most aggressive bears, and have zero fear of humans.

From a quick Google search -

polar bears are considered the most dangerous bear species because they are the largest land carnivore, view humans as potential prey, and are less likely to back down than other bears. Unlike other bears that are often omnivorous, polar bears are obligate carnivores, meaning they must hunt and kill to survive, and they have no fear of humans

This polar bear is named Astra and she just made her public debut last week.  She is 4 years old and was playing and swimming around in the deep end of the Polar Bear Odyssey at the Como Zoo.

Before she arrived at her new home here in Minnesota, she was in Tacoma, Washington.  She is part of an inititive to make sure that there is a healthy and sustainable population of polar bears.

At first, Astra was kept separate from the zoo's other 3 polar bears.  And she was introduced to them slowly, but they could always see eachother.  There is also a hope that there will be more bears from this small community of polar bears.  We will see.
