ST. CLOUD -- Technology in the agricultural industry continues to expand each year with new equipment or farming techniques.

Over the last couple of years farmers have been working with unmanned aerial devices (UAVs) or drones.

Dan Kaiser is the Extension Soil Fertility Specialist at the University of Minnesota. He says the drones are like model airplanes that take pictures of the fields.

The drones were a topic of discussion at this years Farmfest.

There has been concerns regarding regulations and battery life the drones have.

Kaiser says he has been working with a small quadcopter drone to better understand the technology.

Farmers across the state have been experimenting with the drone technology.

Kaiser says he isn't sold on the drone technology just yet. He would like to see more research done to make sure the drones are beneficial to farmers.

The drones cost around $500 to $30,000 depending on cameras and software.
