Speed Cameras Coming To This Minnesota Highway 65 Construction Zone
If you've got a lead foot, you are going to want to slow down while driving a stretch of Central Minnesota road in the near future. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced that it would be using speed cameras in two work zones later this summer; one is in the South Metro, and the other is about an hour from St. Cloud.
Speed Cameras Coming To Highway 65 Work Zone
MnDOT recently announced it would be installing work zone speed cameras inside two Minnesota road projects. According to the MnDOT website, those projects are located in Burnsville, which is located in the south metro of the Twin Cities, and the other project is on Highway 65 between Cambridge and Braham.

There will be signage alerting drivers that the cameras are in use, and, more importantly, warning letters will be mailed to motorists who speed during the trial.
According to MnDOT:
Drivers will see signs on the road to notify them where the cameras are installed and actively issuing warnings. If your vehicle is traveling over the work zone speed limit, the cameras may record the violation, and you may receive a warning letter by U.S. mail.
No Citations, Just Warning Letters...For Now
MnDOT stated that only warnings would be mailed to drivers exceeding 10mph over the posted work zone speed limit. Warning letters will be mailed to the registered owner on the first, fifth, and 10th work zone speed limit violations.
During this trial period, no fines or citations will be issued as part of the work zone speed safety camera pilot project. But depending on how this goes, drivers in work zones with speed cameras could see citations in the future.
When Will The Highway 65 Project Get Speed Cameras?
It's unclear exactly when the work zone between Braham and Cambridge will see speed cameras, as the MnDOT website lists a seasonal range. The date range is summer OR fall of 2026.
Now would be a good time to remind your kids to slow down in work zones.
