We are coming up on the tail end of prime outdoor grilling season. Whether you are a connoisseur of charcoal or a purveyor of propane, your work behind that grill can be thankless at cookouts and family gatherings. I recently spotted out in the wild a different flavor of brat that I'd never seen before: root beer brats. Is this something that you'd try?

The Same People That Brought Us Walleye Brats

The same Nisswa store that brought us walleye brats earlier this year rolled out a different flavor a few weeks ago, and it has been in my head rent-free since. A root beer brat.

Schaefer's Foods in Nisswa teamed up with their local A&W and went into the laboratory and came out with this sweet-sounding summer concoction.

That's right, a brat with some A&W root beer inside of it! Thinking about what it tastes like, I keep going back to thinking the root beer makes the brat mellow and sweet. These are the brats you wouldn't want to boil to cook; you'd want some char on them, to caramelize any root beer that might be lingering inside the casing.

Traditional Flavors or Would You Try Something Different?

I know a few people in my life who aren't a fan of the 'odd' brat flavors that are out there. They are more traditional with their flavors, and that's cool, but c'mon, let's live a little!

Schaefer's Foods in Nisswa, along with several other meat markets around Central Minnesota, offer up some fun and funky flavors, so while we still have some summer sunshine to grill in, take a chance on a new flavor to go along with those 'regular' brats; you never know what you might enjoy.

I never thought I'd like a gummy bear brat, but they are killer.

After having spent the greater part of the last three weeks outside Minnesota, it has been great to be back. We live in a very beautiful part of the country. From the North Shore's jagged cliffs to the rolling croplands of southern Minnesota and to the driftless area near Preston, our state is filled with beautiful sights. I managed to find 6 photos that were taken right here in Minnesota, but when you look at them, you'd think they were taken somewhere else completely. Let's enjoy the land of 10,000 photos, shall we?
