Unless you've lived here, most of the US thinks Minnesota is part of flyover country. But what you might not know is that Minnesota has played an important part in country music. Whether it's a favorite place to fish for Bocephus or was the last stop on a tour for a group, we might not have 10,000 Country tales, but we've got at least three.

The Man In Black Played For 5,000 In A Town Of 45

It was actually on this date, 37 years ago, August 18, 1989, that the Man in Black, Johnny Cash, played for 5,000 people in a town that had a population of 45. It was Cornstalk Fest in Regal, where Cash played in an alfalfa and hay field behind the County Line Bar.

The event at the time didn't really have a catchy name until fate stepped in. According to the lore, "Cash famously looked out at the massive sea of lawn chairs and feed-store caps and joked, "Twenty years ago, they had Woodstock. Welcome to Cornstalk."

From Small MN Town To The Grand Ole Opry Roadshow

From a small town in Northern Minnesota to performing at the Grand Ole Opry Roadshow, that was the path for Connie Lee Stich. Stich is a country singer from tiny Urbank, Minnesota, with a population that hovers between 40 and 50 people. She made her first record at 12, then at 15 joined the Grand Ole Opry Roadshow, touring with names including Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, Little Jimmy Dickens and George Jones.

Florida Georgia Line Called It Quits In Minnesota

It's hard to believe that it's been almost 4 years since Florida Georgia Line performed together as an official group. The last time they played together as a group was August 31st, 2022, at the Minnesota State Fair.

According to the Pioneer Press' coverage of the show "Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley told the crowd the show was the "closing of an incredible chapter" before finishing their set with their breakout hit "Cruise" and walking off in opposite directions."

Now it seems the two might be gearing up to get back together, but for now, Minnesota remains attached to the group as the place where they last performed together.
