Martens says about 45 schools will be required to hold state tournament quarterfinals in basketball and wrestling, rounds that have previously been held at Target Center, Xcel Energy and University of Minnesota venues.

In 2020, Mahtomedi claimed the Class A Boy's Hockey title, while Hill-Murray claimed the Boys Class AA championship. On the girls side last year, Breck claimed the Class A trophy and the Andover girls were the Class AA champs.
It was a different story last season for basketball. 2020 girls tournaments were shutdown after the play had already started as COVID-19 concerns peaked. Following the stoppage of the girls' play, the boys tournaments were cancelled all together.
