I know that I have heard throughout the years about the significance of dogs and what they can smell, how they have saved lives in several occasions.  There have been many movies made on the subject.  Dogs have been shown to save families from bad weather, to fires and also sicknesses such as cancer.

Breanna Bortner is sharing her story and it really is a happy ending brought on by man's, or in this case, woman's best friend.  Breanna had just had a breast exam 3 months earlier.  Suddenly her dog, a cockpoo started pawing at her chest, which was strange.  But even stranger, her sister in law's dog was also doing this.

"I had always heard stories where people, you know, say that their dogs could sense things,

She also was scratching what she thought was a mosquito bite, turns out she had a lump in her breast, and that is what the dog was trying to let her know.

Bortner was tested, and was then diagnosed with breast cancer.

Doctors diagnosed Bortner with stage 2B triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma, a type of breast cancer that has fewer treatment options than other types of invasive breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.

The dog, inbetween when the lump was found, and when she was finally diagnosed, the dog kept up with the "pawing" behavior which was not common behavior for her dog.  The dog seemed to know before the doctors did!

Breanna Bortner now runs a blog titled "Brave Beautiful Boobies".  The blog documents her experience and journey and encourages others to chime in with their experiences.  She credits her dog, Mochi, with saving her life.  Without him, and that strange behavior, she may not have had such a positive outcome.
