Solid Rules to Follow if You Get Pulled Over in Minnesota
Ok, I will be the first to admit that I have been pulled over several times since I have been driving. Never for anything other than speeding, but still - it's been a lot. Nothing real recent, but I did have a time in my life when I was really a stupid driver. Let's just say I was in my 20s and actually had about 5 speeding tickets in one year. That was expensive more than anything. But I have learned it's not worth it. So - in my now advanced age, I have calmed down.
ARE YOU DRIVING LIKE AN IDIOT
I see a lot of young drivers driving like idiots, and I'm thinking "you'll learn". Hopefully they will. I did.
Also, you may see a lot of other people driving like idiots. But again, stay calm, or you could be the one being pulled over, even though they should be.
LOTS OF HOLIDAY TRAVEL OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS
A lot of people will be on Minnesota roads throughout the next few weeks holiday shopping, still working, trying to get to their destinations for family celebrations, holiday parties and things of that nature. If you do happen to get pulled over, there are some basic rules that you should follow. This actually came from a lawyer known as the @tiktokstreetlawyer, real name James Moorhouse, but also from my own experiences. Again - not recently!! Let's remember that one.
RULES TO FOLLOW IF YOU GET PULLED OVER
Make sure you remain very respectful and don't swear! Otherwise you will just make the officer upset and that usually won't work in your favor.
Say less. Make sure you only speak when spoken to and answer the questions without elaborating as much as possilble
Don't figit. If you look antsy then it will look like you have something to hide.
Do not admit any guilt. And if things get heated or escalate, still don't say anything other than requestiong an attorney.
Have your license and insurance information ready to go. That way you aren't digging around and giving the impression that you may have a weapon in the vehicle. Or trying to hide something else. Then, keep your hands in plain site. If you do have a weapon in the vehicle or on your person, and you have a permit to conceal/carry, let them know that immediately. Otherwise, if things escalate, the officer will wonder why you didn't mention it and things could go south quickly.
If you have music on or are listening to something make sure and turn that off before the officer gets to your car and roll down your window. If it's raining or snowing rolling it down half way if fine.
Basically follow the rules of the road and hopefully this will not happen to you. Drive safely and have a happy holiday season.
