Killers Among Us, How Well Do You Know Your MN Neighbors?
How well do you really know your neighbor? It sounds like a silly question, but when you think about it there are killers living seemingly normal lives in our very own community unbeknownst to us. A few years ago, the 26 year mystery of Jacob Wetterling's disappearance was solved and his murderer, Danny Heinrich, was found living in the small town of Annandale, Minnesota. However, there are many other central Minnesota mysteries that are still unsolved and the killers are still at large.
Josh Guimond was 20 years old when he went missing from the Saint John's University campus in 2002. His friends say he was walking back to his dorm from a party when he vanished. The party was a three minute walk from his residence hall. His disappearance remains a mystery today and his killer is still out there living among us.
Mary,15, and Susane Recker, 12, were two sisters who went missing on Labor Day 1974. They were shopping for school supplies and never made it home. The girls were missing for 26 days before their bodies were found in Quarry Park with multiple stab wounds. Police never found the person who murdered the girls. In an interview with WJON, Stearns County Chief Deputy, Bruce Bechtold said, "Somebody knows something that they’re either hiding on purpose or are just afraid to say what they knew at the time."
Forty-year-old Terrence "Terry" Brisk was hunting alone in the small town of Little Falls in 2016 when he was shot to death. He was killed on his parent's land in Belle Prairie Township. Brisk's own rifle was missing from the crime scene. Police are looking for the Winchester Model AE .30-30 lever-action rifle. There's a $20,000 reward for anyone who has information that will lead to the identity of Brisk's killer.
Sartell native Tom Bearson, 18, went missing while attending school at North Dakota State University in Fargo on September 20, 2014. His death was ruled a homicide and his killer has yet to be identified. Police have never publicly commented on the details of Bearson's death because they don't want to compromise their active investigation. Bearson's killer is still at large. A foundation has been set up in Bearson's honor by his family.
Police officer Tom Decker, 31, was killed while on duty in Cold Spring, Minnesota in 2012. He and his partner were sent on a welfare check of a potential suicidal person. When Decker got out of his car he was shot twice with a 20-gauge shotgun. Police had two suspects in custody. One was released and the other committed suicide one month later. The gun used to kill Decker was found on property that one of the suspects had access to. However, police have never been able to identify Decker's killer.
