KARE 11 Anchor Julie Nelson Shares Update On Her Recovery

A Twin Cities news anchor gave an update on her absence Monday afternoon. The anchor has been missing from the evening newscasts on KARE 11 for about a month after a boating accident injured her, prompting her to step away from the desk to recover.

Julie Nelson Is Taking Time Away To Recover From Accident

On June 18th, KARE 11 anchor Julie Nelson shared on social media that she and her husband had been in a boating accident and that she would be stepping away from her job anchoring evening newscasts on KARE while she recovered.

At the time, Nelson's post indicated that “We were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries, so I will be off the air while I take some time to heal and recover. I’m grateful for the outpouring of love and support that’s been shown to me and my family.”

An Update On Julie Nelson's Recovery

On Monday, July 20th, about a month after she shared news of the boating accident, Nelson shared an update on her recovery. While it sounds like she won't be back at work for a few more weeks, she did indicate that she is getting better every day.

"Hello everyone,

I wanted to provide a quick update on my recovery as I know it's been a few weeks since you’ve heard from me.

I'm happy to report that I am getting better every week, but I do need a bit more time before I can fully return to work.

As challenging as this process has been, the love and support from my family and friends, and so many of you, has lifted me up and encouraged me.

I have so much to be grateful for--including the incredible support from everyone at KARE-11.

Thank you for your patience and your prayers.

I look forward to being back with all of you soon!"

While Nelson has been away, the 6 and 10 pm news has been anchored by the February hire, Kevin Holmes, who came to KARE 11 from Kansas City.
