23-year-old Mohamed Mohamed was charged in June with one count of simple robbery and a first-degree aggravated robbery. He was accused of being one of three men who robbed a 24-year-old Oronoco man at Silver Lake Park on the morning of June 2.

On Tuesday Mohamed entered a plea deal that calls for him to plead guilty to the simple robbery charge in exchange for the dismissal of the first-degree aggravated robbery count. The prosecution also agreed to drop a felony drug possession case that was filed against Mohamed in August.

Mohamed plans to ask for a downward departure from state sentencing guidelines while the state could ask for a prison sentence as long as 39 months, court records say.

Mohamed could also be released directly to inpatient treatment and placed on release conditions that run concurrently with the probationary conditions he was sentenced to in a 2019 robbery case and 2021 felony assault case.

A judge will determine his punishment at a sentencing hearing in Olmsted County Court in February.

The victim told Rochester Police that Mohamed and two other men punched and choked him then took his wallet on a walking path near the intersection of 7th St. Northeast and East Silver Lake Dr. Northeast.

An officer responding to the reported robbery and assault saw and arrested Mohamed and two men in the area matching a description given by the victim.
