Slate.com did an informal study where they posed the question 'if every state had an official word, what would it be?'  They came up with one for every state and Minnesota's is pretty lame and totally predictable.

When I first read about Slate's study, I was really intrigued.  I was thinking we were going to have some sophisticated, intelligent word.  Yeah...about that...it turns out these are really more slang words for each state.  I will admit there are some good ones.

For example, I've only heard of port-a-potties being referred to as that but in Iowa they call them kybos.  That actually seems pretty good, a little more refined maybe.  Nevada refers to fog as pogonip and people from Wisconsin apparently call ATMs TYME machines.

Minnesota's word, unsurprisingly, is uff da.  Really??? That's the best we could do?  At least some of these other ones are a little more fascinating.  I get that no one else, except maybe Canadians, use the expression but I find it hard to believe we didn't have anything better.  I'm totally disappointed but I'm not sure I have a better suggestion, either.

What do you think should be Minnesota's official (unofficially) word?
