I'm pretty embarrassed to admit this but I had an no-bake baking failure this weekend. How does that happen??? Anyway, I need your help to figure out where I went wrong.

So I found this recipe in one of the local newspapers for no bake peanut butter bars and I was like 'hey, no bake, sounds like there's going to be dessert tonight.' Yeah, I failed miserably and I'm hoping you can help me figure out where I went wrong.

First of all, here's the receipe:

  • 1 c. butter, softened
  • 2 c. graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 c. peanut butter

You combine those ingredients and mix them up.  Then you're to let it chill for a bit and put into a 9x13 pan.  There's a frosting that goes on the top which consists of 1 1/2 cups of milk chocolate chips and 4 tbsp. of butter.

I did all this and they're mush.  The frosting is fine, it's the bottom part.  It's completely gooey.  Don't get me wrong, it's tastes good, although it's extremely rich.  I left them out overnight thinking maybe they'd harden a bit but they're still mush.

Should they have gone back in the fridge?  What am I missing? I'd appreciate any insight as to what I did wrong because I'm at a total loss.
