SAUK RAPIDS - Guns, ammo, protective wear and lessons are all available for free to kids 17 and under at Del-Tone/Luth Gun Club Saturday morning.

The 9th Annual Youth Day at the Range is hosted by the Sauk Rapids Sportsmen's Club. Lessons start at 9:00 a.m. and run every 90 minutes until 1:30 p.m.

Jeff Diehl is an organizer of the event. He says they started the event as a way to promote guns and gun safety.

"It is important to us to get kids started early to promote safe gun handling and just to get involved in the shooting sports."

Shooting sports like trap shooting are growing all over Minnesota among high school sports.

The event features many different coaches to help kids who are more experienced and ones who are just starting.

"We have coaches available from Benton County firearms safety, Foley trap and 4-H shooting sports trap teams that will be helping the kids."

No previous shooting experience is required and kids do not need a certificate.

Kids are welcome to bring their own guns and adults are required to be present while the kids are shooting.

If you would like to register your kids for the event call Jeff Diehl at 320-266-8588 or email jjdiehl63@msn.com.
