Granite City Lumberjacks Cap The Louisiana Drillers 6-2 In Missouri
The Granite City Lumberjacks are on the road this week, hoping to bring home the team's fifth Fraser Cup. So far, the trip has been worth it, as the team has played 1 game and won. Last night, the Lumberjacks defeated the Louisiana Drillers 6-2. Up next for the Lumberjacks is the Binghamton Buzz.
The game got off to a slow start as both teams skated to a 0-0 score at the end of the first period, but that was enough to light a fire under Granite City as they opened up the scoring in the second period scoring 3 times, with 2 of those goals coming on the power play.
The Lumberjacks added another 3 goals in the third period to make the final 6-2. Former Cathedral goalie Nick Hansen got a rare, for a goalie, secondary assist in the game.
Tonight, the Lumberjacks (Regular Season record 37-7-3) are scheduled to face the Binghamton Buzz. The Buzz finished the regular season with a 38-8-1 overall record and in first place in the East Division.
Both teams are 10-0 in their last 10 games, so something will have to give in the game tonight.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm, and you can learn how you can watch the game online, here.
Depending on how the Lumberjacks do tonight, they will be seeded 1 or 2 in their Pool and then play again on Saturday at 4 or 7:30pm. If they win that game, it's on to the Championship game scheduled for Sunday at 4pm.
If the Lumberjacks play the way they did against the Moose last week, they are going to be a hard team to beat during the Fraser Cup playoffs, but as folks like to say, they still have to execute and play the game.
