It's expected that Walz will soon be extending the original order which is currently set to expire on April 10 at 5 p.m.

However, the Elk River Police Department noticed several residents still participating in group activities over the weekend which prompted them to take to social media and remind people of the law.

The department wrote, "over the weekend ERPD officers encountered several instances of 'group play' at city parks just like this one."

They shared a photo of a group of people playing basketball together.

The went on to write, "...ignoring social distancing practices only furthers the potential spread of COVID-19."

They're focus is on educating residents about social distancing and what that means and looks like. They aren't trying to ticket people, but they mentioned violating the order is technically a misdemeanor offense which could land you a $1,000 fine or 90 days in jail.

The department is still encouraging people to get outside and benefit from outdoor exercise, but you should do it while practicing social distancing and following the SIP order.
