Critically Endangered Birth in SEA LIFE at Mall of America
SEA LIFE at Mall of America is celebrating the births of Guitarshark babies! This is only the second aquarium in the U.S. to successfully breed this critically endangered species.
The new bundle of joys are doing swimmingly. The Guitarshark babies were born in the Aquarium’s 500,000 gallon ocean tunnel and have moved from behind-the-scenes to a public area for you to see.
SEA LIFE at Mall of America is only the second aquarium in North America, to have had success in breeding these critically endangered creatures.
The Guitarshark birth will give much learning across the oceanic community to continue to help this struggling creature survive. The breed’s population has declined 91% over the last 40 years and this new birth will hopefully shape breeding in the future for this critically endangered species.
SEA LIFE at Mall of America is throwing a baby shower for all of their recent ocean babies! You can play baby shower games while they ooh and ahh over their amazing babies like the Guitarsharks and stingray pup, baby seahorses and even baby cockroaches!
The Ocean Babies event is included with general admission, and runs from January 24th through February 29th.
