Another Minnesota water tower is being taken down. After years of service to the community of Coon Rapids, the baby blue water tower located at the intersection of Foley and Northdale is coming down. Community members shouldn't worry about lost water pressure, as a replacement exists.

Piece by piece, the water tower is coming down

In a video shared on the City of Coon Rapids Facebook page, workers can be seen climbing along the sides of the water tower, cutting it up into manageable pieces to be lifted by a crane and hauled away.

The work to take down the entire tower will last about two weeks according to the City of Coon Rapids.

The replacement has already been built

With the water tower at Foley and Northdale coming down, residents might be worried about a lack of water, but they can rest assured that it won't happen. The city has, already constructed a new one, found along Highway 610. The new tower isn't the same shade of baby blue, rather, it's white with a picture of a leaf, raccoon, and waterfall and the wording Coon Rapids on it.

What is the purpose of a water tower?

Water towers are more than a beacon to let you know what town you are in. They are used to keep water pressure consistent, as well as to store extra water that is produced from a water treatment center.

Without water towers, when we would turn on the faucet for a shower or to wash our hands, we might be waiting awhile for the water to exit the spigot. Thanks to a water tower and its ability to keep the water pressure consistent when we turn the tap on, we get instant water.
