Tammy Wynette – “Kids say the Darndest Things” -- 1973

 

Billy Sherrill and Glen Sutton wrote this song, released in March 1973 and climbed to number one in a short period time.

This song tells the story of a young woman who has dreams and ambitions, who signs her letters with XXX’s and OOO’s.  Written by Matraca Berg and Alice Randall and topped the chart at number one.

Hal David and Archie Jordan wrote this song.  Ronnie Milsap took the song to number one, his eighth number one country hit.  In the news in 1977, the first Apple One Personal Computer kit goes on sale for $666.66, the Trans Alaskan oil pipeline opens on May 31

A song written and recorded by Willie Nelson from the film soundtrack, “Honeysuckle Rose.”  It became Nelson’s 9th number one country hit.

In the news in 1980, Rosie Ruiz wins the Boston Marathon but is later exposed as a fraud and stripped of her award. And Pope John Paul II visits Brazil, 7 people are crushed to death in a crowd trying to meet him.

Razzy Bailey – “Midnight Hauler” -- 1981

 

Wood Newton and Tim Dubois wrote this number one country hit.  Stayed on the country chart for twelve weeks.
