Freddie Hart – “Easy Loving” -- 1971

Written and recorded by Freddie Hart, it became Hart’s breakthrough hit, number one for three weeks and forever a country music standard.

In the news in 1971, the Monticello Nuclear Power Plant’s tank or radioactive cooling water overflows, eventually reaching the Mississippi River and the voting age in the United States is lowered to 18 years of age.

Easy lovin’, so sexy lookin, I know the feelin that it comes from the heart, easy lovin’ every day’s Thanksgivin’.

 


Merle Haggard – “Workin’ Man Blues” -- 1969

This song is Haggard’s tribute to a core group of his fans.  The American blue collared working’ man.  Written and recorded by the Hagg scoring a number one position on the country chart.

In the news in 1969, President Richard Nixon begins Vietnamization in Southeast Asia and in Technology, the first automatic teller machine, ATM is installed in the United States.

Don Williams – “You’re My Best Friend” -- 1975

Written by Wayland Holyfield and recorded by Williams, it became Williams' second number one hit.

In the news in 1975, Super Bowl IX Steelers beat the Minnesota Vikings 16 to 6, “Wheel of Fortune” debuts on NBC TV, the show is still on the air and on July 8th President Ford announced he would seek the Republican nomination for the Presidency in 1976, an election he lost to Jimmy Carter.

You placed gold on my finger, you brought love like I’ve never known, you gave life to our children. 


Brooks and Dunn – “My Next Broken Heart” -- 1991

A song co-written and recorded by Brooks and Dunn, it topped the chart at number one.

In the news in 1991, lightning strikes during the US open championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, MN killing one spectator and injuring five others.  This was the same year the Halloween blizzard struck the Midwest.  Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) is arrested in a Florida movie theater for indecent exposure.

Holly Dunn – “Daddy’s Hands” -- 1986

Written and recorded by Holly Dunn, the song reached number seven on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.  Sadly, Dunn lost her life to ovarian cancer November 15, 2016 at the age of 59.

In the news in 1986, the Soviet Union launches the MIR space station and the average cost of a new home in the United States was $89,430.

I remember daddy’s hands folded silently in prayer and reachin out to hold me when I had a nightmare.
