The weather was perfect for being at the lake this past weekend. The sunny skies, hot temps, and reflection off the lake left me with a nasty sunburn on my back. If you have the same problem as I do, here are some quick fixes to make the pain go away!

Stay Hydrated - My water bottle isn't leaving my side today. Sunburns draw the fluid in your body to the skin's surface. Make sure you have lots of water to replenish!

Aloe Ice - I have a massive aloe vera plant that calls my kitchen table home. I like to take a stem or two and squeeze the juices out into an ice cube tray and let that sit in the freezer for an hour or two. The aloe helps repair the skin and the ice cold temperature of it feels great on the burn.

Take an Advil or Aleve - OTC pain relievers like Advil, Motrin or Aleve can help ease some of the pain of really bad burns.

Wear Loose Fitting Clothes - Today I am wearing a dress that is basically a giant shirt. It just hovers over my body and doesn't touch my back which is very helpful. Loose clothing is your best friend when burnt.

Use Milk or Yogurt to create new proteins - I haven't tried this for myself, but Medicinenet.com says that by applying cool milk or yogurt to your skin with a clean cloth can help build proteins your skin needs to repair itself, and be soothing. I wonder if ice cream would do the same?

Bonus Tip - The weather is supposed to be sunny and hot this week (when it isn't potentially storming) so make sure you are stocked up on sunscreen and apply it more than you think you need it! I know I had to learn that lesson the hard way....
