There's a saying that I like to use once in a while, "I'm so hungry I could eat a sandwich from a gas station". You probably won't eat a sandwich from a gas station, but will you eat a steak from a gas station vending machine?

I had to stop and ask myself that question when I saw this news report from Alabama. The answer is NO.

There are several big grocery chains out there that get flack for selling packaged meat that is transported all over the country because of the "freshness" of the product and the chemicals that are used to keep it "fresh". That pales in comparison to walking into a convenience store, sliding your credit card in a machine, picking your cut of meat and having it dispensed like a soda.

The Lil Mart in Odenville, Alabama is now offering that vending machine to its customers. The Smart Butcher is the "next big thing" when it comes to making the convenience store a little more convenient.

Personally I won't be purchasing from any such vending machine. I prefer my meat right out of the meat counter at the local butcher.

What do you think? Would you buy meat from a vending machine?
