Minnesota is the birth place of many musical legends but who knew so many of our landmarks were worthy of having a song written about them?

I came across this article from Explore Minnesota that has a list of five songs about some of the state's most well known landmarks.

One of the songs that made the list was You Can't Always Get What You Want from the Rolling Stones.  The song makes reference to Excelsior, Minnesota which is near where I lived before moving to Monticello.  What I've always heard the song was about differs from what the article says in that the story around the town was it was about a man named Jimmy who walked the streets of Excelsior.  I remember seeing him as a kid and I think I talked to him a time or two as well.  I'm not sure we will ever know for sure who that song is really about.

Other songs that made the list were Uptown from Prince, Big River from Johnny Cash, Skyway by The Replacements and my personal favorite (the title anyway) The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota by Weird Al Yankovic.

These are all awesome songs but I know there's tons more that pay homage to our beautiful state in some way.  What's your favorite?
