Clint Eastwood isn’t exactly known for romances, either as an actor or as a director, so when word surfaced that he was planning to helm a remake of ‘A Star Is Born’ with Tim McGraw as a possible star, people naturally wanted to know more. We’ve heard plenty of the rumors as well, including the reported involvement (and subsequent un-involvement) of Beyoncé Knowles and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Little has been made official, however, so you can hardly blame the hosts of NBC’s ‘Today’ for trying to pry the scoop from McGraw during an interview.

While on the show to talk about starring in the new film ‘Dirty Girl,’ he was asked whether he’d officially star in the Eastwood flick. This fourth-filmed version follows an ingenue’s romance with an established celebrity, which is tested when her career takes off and his founders. Referencing the 1976 version of the film, which starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, McGraw quipped, “I do a pretty good Streisand.”

Pressed for details, he admitted, “It’s certainly something that would be a lot of fun. I’m a big Beyoncé fan, I’m a big Clint Eastwood fan.” McGraw remained mum regarding rumors that Beyoncé’s pregnancy would be keeping her from the starring role, and when he was finally asked to put the likelihood of his involvement on a scale of one to 10, he finally admitted there wasn’t an official deal in place. “I’m not gonna put a number on it. I don’t want to jinx myself… No, it’s not been offered officially.”

McGraw, last seen in theaters during 2010′s ‘Country Strong,’ filmed a supporting role opposite fellow country veteran Dwight Yoakam in ‘Dirty Girl,’ which reaches screens this Friday.
