At first, I thought it was kinda annoying...a few friends celebrating their birthdays on Facebook by starting a fundraiser. Then more did.

Then mental health became a HUGE deal in my life (more on that in the coming weeks).

I decided to start a fundraiser for my birthday, and ended up raising $500 for Mental Health Minnesota. It was awesome to witness so many of my friends pitch in to reach my goal, and to raise funds for a severely-underfunded sector of public health.

So how did the fundraisers do overall in its first year? 300 million dollars of AHHH YEAAAHHH!!!

Not too bad.

It's going so well that Asha Sharma - the head of Facebook's "Social Good" initiative - have added donation matches and the ability to add organizers to your fundraiser.

There are a whole lot of ways to raise money on Facebook for a cause that is near and dear to your heart.
