This Small Building Might Be Hiding Minnesota’s Biggest Side Of Cornbread
Last weekend, as my wife and I were heading back to Southern Minnesota for a personal matter, she asked to stop at a BBQ place a few miles off the highway. I noticed that I was hungry too, so we agreed to give it a go, as we hadn't been back to this place in a few years. We knew the food was good, but we had forgotten just how big some of the sides were. Just look at how big this side of cornbread is!
The restaurant that we stopped at, a few miles off the interstate, is called Smoke and it can be found in Lonsdale. Smoke opened up in 2020, during the pandemic, and hit the ground running.
Smoke is a spot we used to stop at and enjoy a meal with friends once or twice a year and the menu was always updated with different seasonal tastes (think soups and chili) along with the BBQ standards like brisket, ribs, etc.
Friday night my wife went with a pulled pork sandwich and a side of cornbread and just look at the mountain of cornbread she got!
When we initially got the side, we had to ask our server if this was the normal portion, as it had been awhile for us, and we were told that yes the cornbread side is always that big.
Coming with the jumbo side was honey butter, which like the cornbread was made in-house.
What spots around Central Minnesota offer up larger-than-life sides? Let us know on the app!
If you are on the road this holiday season, and you find yourself in the area you might want to give it a try. Lonsdale, which is 8 miles off I-35, is located not far from Faribault, New Prague, and Northfield in South Central Minnesota.
