Can we just let seasons be seasons instead of overlapping them?

Starbucks jumped the shark and released the Basic Girl Drink of Necessity early this year. Yes, Pumpkin Spice Lattes.

UGG.

See what I did there?

Have I ever tried a pumpkin spice latte? I'm asking you, because I don't have a definitive answer. If I did, it wasn't very memorable. So what is the reason that people rush to Starbucks to guzzle these drink abominations with such gusto?

A headshrinker may have the answer.

Licensed (OH GOOD FOR YOU) therapist David Klow says it's the combination of wanting new experiences, while also wanting that good ol' familiar feelin'.

“There is a novelty about something new. We are wired to crave new experiences[...]yet we are also accustomed to familiarity and long to create a sense of routine in our lives. When something combines a sense of newness with familiarity, it merges these two drives within us.”

Licensed (GOOD FOR YOU, TOO) clinical psychologist Kelly Tonelli (Rhymes. Luvitt) adds that marketing helped, too.

“Starbucks has created a connection for people between fall and the PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte). [...] Its arrival harkens the beginning of fall and all it represents. It isn’t the PSL specifically but what is still to come.”

PSL? How cool do you need to be to call it a PSL?
