Apollo and Tech will combine their girls soccer programs into one starting in the fall of 2025. The St. Cloud School Board approved the co-op in their most recent meeting. The team, like many other Tech/Apollo combined teams, will be known as the Crush.
St. Cloud School District 742 will have 2 questions posed to voters on April 8, 2025. St. Cloud School Superintendent Laurie Putnam joined me on WJON. She says the 2 questions approved by the board last week are $50 Million to provide safety upgrades at Apollo High School and a multi purpose athletic facility on the Apollo campus.
The Tech boys soccer team defeated Apollo 2-1 Tuesday night at ROCORI High School to capture the Section 8-2-A title and earn a trip to the Class AA State Tournament. This will be Tech's 2nd straight State Tournament appearance.
Tech will play Apollo in the Section 8AA Final at ROCORI High School tonight at 7 p.m. The Tigers upset Willmar 1-0 while Apollo knocked off Alexandria 4-2 in the section semifinals last weekend.
Every other year the Minnesota State High School League reviews school's enrollments and Classifications and this year that is taking place. Cathedral Activities Director Emmett Keenan joined me on WJON. He is also a former member of the Minnesota State High School League Board of Directors.
The Tech boys soccer team captured the Section 8AA title Thursday night with a 2-1 win over rival Apollo at St. Cloud State's Husky Stadium. The Tigers improve to 11-6-2.
Tech and Apollo High Schools have implemented a e-hall pass system for bathroom use during the school day this school year. Apollo High School Principal Justin Skallerud and St. Cloud School Superintendent Laurie Putnam joined me on WJON. Skallerud explained the e-hall pass system has been running at the Junior Highs for a few years now.
Apollo and Tech are sending a big contingent of athletes to participate in the state track and field meet at St. Michael-Albertville Thursday-Saturday (June 9-11).
Graduates and families of graduates can get very excited about the announcement of students' names during graduation ceremonies. Because of this Tech and Apollo High Schools have traditionally asked families and students from applause and outbursts while names are announced so all names can be heard and for the process to proceed in a timely fashion.
During the summer months St. Cloud Schools often have planned maintenance and improvement projects. St. Cloud School Superintendent Willie Jett joined me on WJON today. He says they have planned HVAC work scheduled for Apollo High School this upcoming year and an improved entrance at North Junior High.
