The Sunday Morning Country Classic Spotlight is heard every Sunday at 11 am, on September 10 we’re featuring Charlie Daniels.

This legend is a country singer fiddler and songwriter -- his signature song is “The Devil went Down to Georgia.”  In 2008, he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry and in 2016 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.  He was born October 28, 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Next month he turns 81 years old and still going strong.  Daniels was successfully treated for prostate cancer in 2001.  On January 15, 2010, he suffered a stroke while snowmobiling in Colorado.  He recovered and was released two days later.  In 2013 on March 28th a pacemaker was needed to regulate his heart rate, he was released from the Hospital within days.

He married his wife, Hazel in 1963.  Together they have one son, Charlie Daniels Jr.
