Last week I was sifting through the St. Cloud State University archives writing a story about famous people that had stopped in St. Cloud back in the 80s. The list included names like Cheap Trick, Air Supply, Reba McEntire, and Charlie Daniels.

We lost Charlie Daniels Monday, July 6th at the age of 83 due to a hemorrhagic stroke. The Country Music Hall of Famer made a stop at St. Cloud State University back in 1982 and I thought it would be fun to take a look back at that as we honor his memory and contribution to country music.

The Charlie Daniels Band played to a sold-out crowd at Hallenbeck Hall on November 6th, 1982. Tickets cost $8.50 in advance and $9.50 at the door.

Performing to a sold-out venue, the Charlie Daniels Band put on a long set, including "Lonesome Boys from Dixie," "Trudy" and "Can't You See?"

You can bet that "Devil Went Down To Georgia" was played too, being that it was released just a few years earlier in 1979, and reached number one on the charts. The University Chronicle called the audience a "foot-stompin' crowd".

If you were at this show, I would love to include your memories of it. Email your experience to abbey@minnesotasnewcountry.com and I will add it here.
