Happy Father’s Day to all Dads on this June 19th.

Today the 98.1 Classic Country Spotlight shines on Anne Murray at 11 am.

Anne Murray was born June 20, 1945 in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Canada. She went on to become the First Lady of Country Music in Canada. Murray’s smooth country pop style spread her music far beyond the country charts in America and Canada making her one of the most popular female crossover artists.

Before her days in the music industry she became a high school physical education teacher. While teaching PhyEd, she would work small clubs in Canada. Murray toured until 1975 when she married Bill Langsdroth and had two children, William and Dawn.  Langsroth and Murray divorced in 1998. Langstroth passed away in May 2013. Her daughter Dawn is a singer and songwriter who has recorded with her mother a number of times. Murray and her daughter have spoken publicly about Dawn’s struggle with anorexia. Dawn has since sought treatment.

Murray has received four Grammy Awards. After the success of “Snowbird” she had a number of hit singles that charted on the country and pop charts -- “Danny’s Song,” “A Love Song,” “You Needed Me,” “Shadows in the Moonlight,” “Could I Have This Dance” and “A Little Good News.”  Murray was active from 1968-2008, but she has now retired.
